Simultaneous Tree Planting and Line Clearing Activities

In celebration of the 55th Anniversary of the National Electrification Administration (NEA) and the 15th National Electrification Awareness Month (NEAM), the Mountain Province Electric Cooperative (MOPRECO) organized and participated in a significant set of activities aimed at fostering environmental conservation and ensuring the reliability of electricity distribution in the province.

Tree Planting Initiative:

The tree-planting activity was held at Sitio Payew, Can-eo, Bontoc, a location chosen for its ecological significance and need for reforestation. MOPRECO employees, together with Member-Consumer-Owners (MCOs), Barangay Officials, and local volunteers, planted a total of 200 seedlings. The selection of species—133 mahogany and 67 alnos—was carefully made to support local biodiversity and soil stabilization efforts. Mahogany, known for its durability and economic value, and alnos, a native species prized for its ability to thrive in local conditions, were chosen to enhance the area’s ecological resilience.

The activity was not only about planting trees but also about community engagement and education. Participants were provided with information on the importance of reforestation, the role of trees in combating climate change, and the benefits these species bring to the local ecosystem. The event served as an opportunity for the community to connect over shared environmental goals, fostering a sense of stewardship for the land.

Clearing Operations:

Simultaneously, MOPRECO linemen were deployed to conduct line-clearing operations across various parts of the province. These operations are crucial in maintaining the safety and reliability of the electrical grid, particularly in mountainous and forested areas where vegetation growth can lead to potential hazards such as power outages or even fires.

The line-clearing activity involved trimming and removing overgrown branches and vegetation that were in close proximity to power lines. This meticulous work was carried out using both manual and mechanical means, ensuring that the process was effective yet minimally invasive to the surrounding environment. MOPRECO’s commitment to environmental sustainability was evident as the linemen took great care to avoid unnecessary damage to the local flora while performing their duties.

This initiative underscores MOPRECO’s dual commitment to environmental protection and the continuous improvement of service delivery to its member-consumers.

Looking Forward:

MOPRECO plans to continue its environmental and infrastructure initiatives throughout the year, with further tree planting activities and regular maintenance of power lines to ensure safe and reliable electricity supply. The cooperative remains dedicated to its mission of electrification while upholding its responsibilities as a steward of the environment.
